Hiding files inside a JPEG Image

Using a simple trick in Windows, you can actually hide a file inside of the JPEG picture file.
To achieve this you will need to have either WinZip or WinRAR installed on your computer.

Steps:

1. Select all the files that you want to hide and save it in a folder say C:\hide
2. Create a RAR or ZIP archive to the above files.
3. Select a JPEG image and save it to same folder (C:\hide).

4. Open Command prompt (Windows+R--->Type CMD ---> ENTER)
5. Navigate to the folder where files are stored (Use "cd" command to change the directory)
6. Type command “COPY /b image.jpg + hide.rar output.jpg” (without quotes)
-image.jpg is the JPEG image
-Output.jpg is the output image with hidden files

7. Visit the directory, there you will see output.jpg
-Double click on it ,Image will be opened
-Open with WinRAR you'l find your hidden file.

ID Based Calling System - BE project

This post is not a techbuzz. It’s about my experience with engineering final year project. My PL(Exam preparation leave) is goin on and I have nothing to do so thought of writing this post.

It all began with selecting team mates and searching project topics. Making group was fairly easy but finding out what project to do was really hectic. We were a group of three: Me(Hetul Gabani)-coder, Binny Chauhan -Uml n documentation expert, and Shashank Nirmal - CS pro n addict, though he was a bit laggy in doin project work but eventutally he ended up doin some quality work. With the help of my friend chetan we finalized on topic that is "IDBCS - ID Based Calling System". Well I'l skip the technical part and discuss the non technical aspect of the journey.First half of the final year passed away without bothering about the project and with "aarey baad me dekhlenge" attitude .It was the 2nd half when we actually started thinking of how to implement the project and setting our priorities. Here the interesting thing begins- Our BE trip to GOA.I was all set for fun ride but sadly chicken pox attacked me and my trip became a dream.Entire week was at home having nothing to do, this was the time when our actual project implementation was inaugurated. Slowly we progressed and finally we had a working project ready. Entire project was completed in a month and half. It should be called "Final Month Project" instead of Final year project. It was a great learning experience.

Google has launched (not yet in India) a Gmail-integrated VoIP (voice over InternetProtocol) client that would allow users to make phone calls directlyfrom the browser.

The feature is different from the voice and video chat that is already available from Gmail using the chat feature, in that it isn't solely between chatusers. Instead, the new feature allow users to call any typeof phone directly from their Web browser.

For those users seeing the test of the new product, the ability to makephone calls is added directly to the Google Talk popup that appears inthe lower right corner of the Gmail screen, offering a keypad, a callhistory, and a credit balance. According to the screenshots from CNET,Google will offer free calls within the U.S. and Canada, with cheapinternational calling, in 2010.

Simplest way to remove all hyperlinks in a MS Word document.

When you copy any content from Internet to your MS Word document , you may find that there are a lot of hyperlinks, which you may want to delete.
So how to remove this hyperlinks? Simply right-click them one by one and choose “Remove hyperlink“, but this method is too time consuming and not feasible to remove large number hyperlinks.

To remove all hyperlinks at once there are two ways:
► Direct Way:
• Press “Ctrl + A” to select all content.
• Press “Ctrl + Shift + F9”

• Done!

With this method the job is easy but the problem is that Formatting remains the same. So it still gives a hyperlink look to the content. To over come this there is a alternate indirect method.

►Indirect Way:
As we know that Word pad does not support hyperlinks.So to remove Hyperlinks:

• First copy the content in Word pad.

• Then copy the content from Word pad to MS Word Document.

• All hyperlinks will be removed and the formatting will be uniform through out the document.
•Done!

What is "Netcut" and How it works?

NetCut

This is a commonly used tool used on networks to cut down the network connection of victim. It makes aDenial of Service attack on the Victim so that he doesn’t get internetaccess. It does so by flooding the switch with unreal MAC addressentries that point to the victim’s ip address, so the packets aremapped incorrectly and the victim receives no packets.

Lets understand how it works:

Suppose there is a Desktop PC with:

Hostname : C4

IP : 10.0.0.81

      Gateway : 10.0.0.138
We use here 3 tools:
1.Netcut : To make Attack.
2.Ethereal : To Checks Packets.
3.AntiArp : To monitors and block all incoming and outgoing ARP traffic from / to my pc.

First we use NetCut on my machine to block user 10.0.0.10

On the ethereal, it made 1767 ARP packets in only one minute..!

TheAntiArp shows that I ‘m sending fake Mac address tothe gateway and I’m disguised as the victim’s IPaddress. (while if wemake a man in the middle attack , we can get victims MAC address and set is as our MAC addr and give victim other addr ) .

How to defend against a similar type of attack ?

. AntiArp is a nice tool the defends the MAC Denial of Service attack.

. NetCut itself has an option to protect my computer. (It has option protect my PC . Simply select that checkbox)

Gmail dot blindness

Gmail cannot recognize dots or periods in email addresses or the user names - that means an address like "abc.xyz@gmail.com" is the same as "abcxyz@gmail.com" or "a.b.cxy.z@gmail.com".

If a Gmail account like "abc.xyz@gmail.com" already exists, registration of "abcxyz@gmail.com" or any address with string "abcxyz"(charters may be separated with random pattern or sequence of dots) would fail.

This is actually a bug than a feature but you can again exploit it to have different kind of email address in your forum signatures.

Keep in mind that hyphens (-) and underscores (_) can't be used in a Gmail address. Also, gmail user names are case insensitive, so it doesn't matter if you enter upper case or lower case letters.

The actual reason for which these software demands restart is that it requires Windows Registry to be re-read. Well, there’s a workaround. To force a registry re-read you just have to terminate and restart the Windows Explorer process(explorer.exe).

You can do it by using Taskmanager and killing explorer.exe process. The other way is to create a batch file which will kill and restart your explorer.exe process.

Type the following commands into an empty text file and save it as ‘reg_read.bat’.(Notice the .bat at the end)

@echo off
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
explorer.exe

This batch file terminates the explorer.exe process and then restarts it.
Now, whenever you need to make windows reread the registry to avoida restart after you install a new program, double click on‘reg_read.bat’ and start using the software right away.

If you're writing a post and you want it to stay at top. Just click the Post Options link at the bottom of the post editor and change the date of the post to some future date like 2010. The format of the date is Month/Day/Year like when I'm writing this post, the date is 7/15/09, so I can change 09 to some future year.

If you've already written and published a post then you can go to Edit Posts and then find that post. Once found, click Edit link and post will again open in the Post Editor where you can change it's date.

FireFound is hands down the best security add-on for Firefox. It is a recently launched add-on which can track the location of your laptop if lost or stolen. It shows you the approximate geolocation along with the WiFi Network it last connected to.

Once the add-on is installed, you will be asked to create a new account with FireFound(requires only username and password). When done, simply head over to the Options and choose to receive notification when the computer is used more than 2 miles(or any number of miles defined by the user) from it’s previous location.

It can delete all data if you activate the Emergency Data Protection mode from the FireFound Dashboard. You can select which data should be deleted from the Options, when this mode is activated.

Head over to the FireFound page and hit Login, enter the Username and Password and you will be shown the last known location along with the coordinates, IP address, city name, and WiFi network.

All information send or received is encrypted, so there is nothing to worry about the security. You can activate data protection from the main control panel which is located under the My Data tab.

Once you activate the data protection mode, the user who is using the browser will have to provide the password, if the password is wrong, the data which you selected to be deleted will be wiped out.

FireFound

The only feature I would love to see is an option to backup the data before wiping it out. Having said that, I believe this add-on is a must for every user who prefer to protect his data. It can also track your mobile since it also works with Fennec(mobile Firefox).

Windows 7 : How to create Adhoc Network in Windows seven Starter Edition.

Windows7 Starter edition dodn’t have an option for setting up an Ad-Hoc network in the Network and Sharing Center.

On Microsoft product page it is stated that ad-hoc connection is not available in Windows 7 Starter edition. But as it all turns out, you can in fact use the ad-hoc network in Starter edition.

Microsoft has promoted Windows 7 Starter edition in a bizarre way. Sure, it is a stripped down version of Windows 7 most suitable for netbooks but saying that it can’t create or be part of ad-hoc network is stupid and misleading.

Most guides, including the one we wrote here, ask users to head over to the Network and Sharing Center and then set up ad-hoc network. But the ad-hoc shortuct is missing from Windows 7 Starter edition(see screenshot below).

If you are using Windows 7 Starter, you are licensed to use the ad-hoc network but NOT licensed to use the ad-hoc network shortcut inside Network and Sharing Center. Read the sentence again, we are talking about ‘ad-hoc network’ and the ‘ad-hoc network shortcut’ inside Network and Sharing Center. So Microsoft is actually confusing the hell out of novice users.

Want to set up ad-hoc network? Simply head over to Start Search, type adhoc, and hit Enter. This will open up the Ad-hoc Network connection wizard. Simple as that.

To save on Random Access Memory (RAM), Windows uses your Page File as a sort of cache. This can slow down your PC's overall performance. To remedy this situation, Windows XP has an option that allows users to clear the Page File when you shut down Windows. While this tweak tends to lengthen the shutdown time, it does have its performance benefits.

To set the computer to clear the page file without directly editing the registry is:

Click on the Start button
Go to the Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Local Security Policy
Local Policies
Click on Security Options
Right hand menu - right click on "Shutdown: Clear Virtual Memory Pagefile"
Select "Enable"
Reboot

To clear the page file using the Windows Registry:

Be sure to make a backup copy of your registry prior to making any changes to it.

Go to Start>> Run. Type in: regedit [Enter] or click OK.
Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
Click once on the entry titled: "Memory Management". Its contents will now appear in the right pane.
In the right pane. Locate an entry titled: "ClearPageFileAtShutdown". Right click this entry and select "Modify".
Chance the Value to "1". This will enable this feature.
Exit the Windows Registry and reboot your system when prompted.

What is Double Password Protection ?

A strong passwords should have a significant length and cannot contain normal words. Only random digits and letters of different case. Such passwords are extremely hard to remember and it takes time to enter. But, even strong passwords have their weaknesses. When you type a password, it can be intercepted by a spy program that logs all your keystrokes. Others can see what you type (even if the password field on the screen is masked, the password can be read by buttons you hit on your keyboard.)

Until now, the only solution was to buy a secure token. A secure token is a hardware key that is used instead of or in addition to your normal password authentication. There are two main problems with the hardware solution, though. First, it is expensive. And second, you can use them only with software that has built-in support for this method of authentication.

But, from now on, you can turn any USB flash drive into a secure token! No need to purchase an additional expensive device. All you need is about 2 megabytes of free space on your flash drive or other USB gadget, such as an MP3 player, PDA or even a USB-pluggable mobile handset.

How does it work? The software, Double Password, installs onto your flash drive. When you type a password, the program intercepts it and converts it into a super-strong password string on-the-fly. You can use simple, easy-to-remember passwords without the risk of being cracked.

Another benefit of using Double Password is that nobody can steal your passwords. Spy programs are useless. Even if someone gets the "weak" password that you type on the keyboard, it means nothing. This password will only work when your USB flash is inserted.

While typical hardware locks will work only with software that supports secure tokens, Double Password works with any software. It simply substitutes your weak password with a strong one.

Double Password can be effectively used to securely lock your Windows account, to protect your laptop and to bring a new level of security to all software that uses password authentication.

Show/Hide Close Button On Tabs

Default: 1

Modified values:

0 – display a close button on the active tab only
1- display close buttons on all tabs
2- don’t display any close buttons
3- display a single close button at the end of the tab strip

Autofill Address in URL Bar

Other than the smart location feature, you can also get your URL bar to autofill the address as you type the URL. Type in the filter box with browser.urlbar.autofill, double click it to change the default Boolean from false to true.

Adjust Number Of Suggestions

When you start typing in the location bar, a drop-down list of suggestion URLs will be shown. If you want it to show more than 12 suggestions (12 is the default), you can adjust the browser.urlbar.maxRichResults keys and get it to show the number you want.

The Scrolling Tabs

When you opened many tabs, Firefox will not keep on reducing the tab width. Instead, it shows a scrolling bar so that the minimum width (100px) is conserved and you can scroll to find your tabs. If you are one of those who don’t like the scrolling tab function and prefer Firefox to show all the tabs, regardless how small it is, here’s what you should do.

Set the value of browser.tabs.tabMinWidth to 0 to disable it. Similarly, if you want Firefox to display more tabs before showing the scrolling button, you can reduce the default value to a lower value, say 75 pixels.

Disable Delay Time When Installing Add-on

Every time you wanted to install a Firefox add-on, you will have to wait for several seconds before the actual installation starts. If you are tired of waiting, you can turn the functionsecurity.dialog_enable_delay off so that the installation will start immediately upon clicking.

If you are a WIFI user than u need to protect ur your network from being hacked. Hacking a wifi network is easily done by any person having some knowlegde about networks. It is done by sniffing ur network's packets and decryting it to get the password of ur network.Many different utilities are provided in an open source Operating system called "BACK TRACK" to do all the trick to hack others wifi network and illegally access the network.

Some suggestions to be safe.
The problem is that Microsoft designed Windows XP and Windows Vista to be convenient, especially when connecting via wireless, but convenience in the security world often carries a high price. Of course, it goes almost without saying that you should always have a suite of security applications including antivirus, antispam, and antispyware, as well as a personal firewall installed on your laptop. But to avoid having your laptop connect to the first access point that looks attractive, try these maneuvers:

1) Use a wireless broadband card
Rather than use a public cafe's open wireless, get a wireless broadband account and use your laptop to connect to 3G networks via cell modem. Overall wireless broadband accounts are more secure--it's harder to hack into a cellular call--and, in some cases, more reliable than public 802.11 wireless.

2) Change your home or office default router name
Don't make your laptop vulnerable in the first place. To do this, access your home or office router's firmware (usually this requires typing a specific address into a browser's address bar), then change the default SSID (Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, or the like) to something original (for example, UpUpAndBeyond, or something similar). While you're at it, change the router's default admin ID and password, and enable some form of encryption (WEP, WPA, or WPA2).

3) Disable the Windows networking automatic connect feature
Don't let your laptop connect just anywhere. To do so, right-click your current wireless network connection, click Properties, then click the Wireless Networks tab. Here you'll see a box with all of the last known connections you've made. After each, if it says "automatic," highlight and click properties, then select the connection tab for that network. Uncheck the box labeled "Connect when this network is in range."

The downside is that the next time you fire up your laptop, you won't be connected right away. Instead, you should see a list of available wireless networks. It'll cost you a few seconds to choose one and connect to the right network, but at least you'll know what you're connecting to.

4) Set a MAC address for the routers you know
This won't help with random, open public wireless networks the physical address of which you won't necessarily know, but it will help with home and office connections, particularly if you live or work in a crowded area. Again, if you haven't changed your SSID, how do you know if the Linksys router you're connecting to from the front of your apartment is the one in the back of your apartment, or your neighbor's next door?

5) Turn off the ad hoc connections option
This should already be disabled with most default Windows XP and Vista installations, but you should check anyway.

VC is a helpful add-on for capturing pictures or videos and Locking System can provide certain security to the laptop.

Is There a Scientific Way to Measure How Bad a Fart Smells?

For their senior project, two Cornell University computer-engineering whizzes recently built a machine that measures smell for the farts. After learning in class how breathalyzers work, Robert Clain and Miguel Salas assembled a fart detector from a sensitive hydrogen sulfide monitor, a thermometer and a microphone and wrote the software that would rate the emission. A “slight perturbance in the air” near the detector sets it to work measuring the three pillars of fart quality: stench, temperature and sound. Temperature, Clain explains, is critical. The hotter a fart, the faster it spreads. “It beeps faster if it’s a high ranker, and a voice rates it on a scale of zero to nine,” he says. “If it ranks a nine, a fan comes on to blow it away. It even records the noise so you can play it back later.” After a few months of construction, they began field tests. “Well, the sample data wasn’t the entire school, but we definitely tested it,” Salas says.

The contraption could even have use outside of fraternity houses, Clain says, as a biosensor for harmful hydrogen-sulfide-producing bacteria in hospitals. Or dentists could use it to measure oral malodor. They’ve also received some interest from doctors with four-legged patients. “You can test the health of livestock through the quality of their farts,” Salas says. “Smell and sound can tell you a lot about their bowel movements.”

When it came time to present the invention in class, though, Clain and Salas had to test their detector by making raspberry sounds and breathing on it—human exhalations contain enough hydrogen sulfide to trigger the sensor. “It’s hard to fart something really smelly on command,” Clain laments. “Besides, it provided a nicer atmosphere for those around us.” Still, their professor saw fit to award the project a well-deserved A.

Japan Wants to Power 300,000 Homes With Wireless Energy From Space.

Japan has serious plans to send a solar-panel-equipped satellite into space that could wirelessly beam a gigawatt-strong stream of power down to earth and power nearly 300,000 homes.

The satellite will have a surface area of four square kilometers, and transmit power via microwave to a base station on Earth. Putting solar panels in space bypasses many of the difficulties of installing them on Earth: in orbit, there are no cloudy days, very few zoning laws, and the cold ambient temperature is ideal.

A small test model is scheduled for launch in 2015. To iron out all the kinks and get a fully functional system set up is estimated to take three decades. A major kink, presumably, is coping with the possible dangers when a 1-gigawatt microwave beam aimed at a small spot on Earth misses its target.

The $21 billion project just received major backing from Mitsubishi and designer IHI (in addition to research teams from 14 other countries).
